Stationery Stories - What is Yours?

“We found it challenging to find wedding invitations that reflected our style. I ended up designing them myself and this literally led to an ‘A-ha’ moment, that I wanted to open a paper boutique. I envisioned a charming and beautiful little shop that provoked thoughtfulness, and that would inspire creativity.”

Audrey and Joshua Woollen, NSS attendees and co-owners of Urbanic Paper Boutique, located in Venice, CA

Audrey’s Story:

I grew up in a creative family, and as I matured developed a strong appreciation for good design. I landed in the fashion industry and met my husband Joshua while traveling. We were living on opposite coasts and developed a long distance letter writing relationship that eventually led to us becoming engaged. The special mail that we sent was a huge part of who we were together and we found it challenging to find wedding invitations that reflected our style. I ended up designing them myself and this literally led to an ‘A-ha’ moment, that I wanted to open a paper boutique. I envisioned a charming and beautiful little shop that provoked thoughtfulness, and that would inspire creativity.

This August is our 10 year anniversary! I’ve been attending the National Stationery Show for the last 12 years, and quite honestly – would never consider missing one. The trek across country is completely worth it for us, as it’s the only time of the year to see all of the latest collections in one place. There is so much value in meeting up with the designers that we work with and I’m happy to say that these growing relationships have led to many amazing creative collaborations. I love the consolidated creative pulse of the market and always leave feeling inspired with a re-ignited purpose of who we are and what we offer at Urbanic.
