The National Stationery Show® and SURTEX® Unveil the Boulevard

White Plains, NY, April 11, 2018--  The Boulevard is a new shared space for 2018 between The National Stationery Show®, and SURTEX® highlighting the synergies between the industries and events.  The Boulevard is the new home for the shared social media lounge, daily activities, demonstrations and theTheatre, featuring an array of seminars and speakers that address the nuances of industries.

“We are excited to celebrate the commonalities and uniqueness of each of our industries and events,” said Kelly P. Bristol, the NSS show director. “The Boulevard will be an area of activity that supports bringing the design and stationery/lifestyle gift worlds together.” The NSS is the only global North American forum for the stationery market. Hundreds of companies will feature their new product offerings May 20-23, 2018.

SURTEX runs May 20-22, 2018 bringing designers, licensees and brands together under one roof. “The Boulevard is a unique opportunity for participants in both SURTEX and the NSS,” noted Randi Mohr, Emerald Expositions vice president and SURTEX show director. “While some sessions are still specific to one event or the other, many have crossover implications for both. This special shared area further promotes networking and business interactions between the two communities.”

Calligraphy demonstrations are planned for the Boulevard Sunday through Tuesday.  A different calligrapher will be highlighted each day in 45-minute sessions where participants will create a takeaway. Demonstrators will be Becky Park, Wellspring Writes; Chavelli Tsui, Studio Chavelli; and Danielle Rothman, Rothbyrns Creative. Each workshop will be capped at 12 participants.

The NSS workshop schedule features three separate tracks for attendees: Business Nuts & Bolts, The Art of Writing, and Trends from the Show Floor. Each track features a different interactive workshop session daily Sunday through Tuesday.  Business topics include: “Styling for Instagram”, “Accounting Basics for Retailers” and “Publicity 101”. The Art of Writing sessions include “Why Cursive Handwriting Matters in a Digital Age”, “Thank You Note Etiquette” and the “Joys of Journaling”.  Daily trend finds will be highlighted and discussed by retailers each day. The SURTEX Theatre schedule includes sessions Sunday through Tuesday by Eric Ramirez, FIT; Deborah Schneiderman, Pratt Institute; Nancy Fire, Design Works International; Bridgette Morphew and Jason Lyon, Parodox/Morphew; Pete Wollaeger, Eyez Brand; and Steve Greenberg, Pointcarre. Topics span a wide range including “Trends from Design Students”, “Vintage and Antique Textiles”, “Products with Personality”, “The Performative Surface”, “It’s Now a Millennial World and “Digital Technology for Surface Design.” A complete schedule can be found on the SURTEX website.

John Israel, best known as the “Thank You Guy”, is giving a special presentation on gratitude Sunday, May 20 at 3 p.m. Israel challenged himself to be the difference and wrote five thank you notes daily for a year, totaling 1,825. He will have a special discussion on #TheYearOfThankYou as well as a book signing to be held in the social media lounge following his session.  This presentation is sponsored by NSS exhibitors Calypso Cards and Egg Press.

SURTEX trend speakers Bridgette Morphew and Jason Lyon of Morphew and Paradox will host a pop-up show on the Boulevard.  They will feature a selection of antique and vintage apparel for sale that will coincide with the trend talk on Sunday about how they see and use vintage and antique textiles for design inspiration and the intersection between the home and fashion markets. Pieces spanning the globe from Japanese Kimonos to West African Indigos will be for sale for design inspiration as well as retail and wholesale.

Rongrong and Graphique de France will also be sketching on the Boulevard. Rongrong DeVoe is a designer under SURTEX exhibitor Jewel Brand and Art Licensing and Graphique de France is an NSS exhibitor. Now working together, they are highlighting one of the connections between the two shows. Rongrong will be personalizing Graphique De France journals for SURTEX and the NSS attendees through live sketch with markers. Additional background information and times can be found on the website.

Through Broadway Bound both SURTEX and the NSS participants have the opportunity to see a Broadway musical a specially discounted price of $109, a savings of more than $60 off the normal price.
